WALZ'R

Waltz, considered as a matter - a physical object, holds within its own structure, its own properties, points of resistance and frailties, an intrinsic ability to transform into something else. „Alles Walzer! “

First initiated in 2009 at the Kunstfest Weimar, choreographer Jenny Beyer and sound artist Jassem Hindi decided to pursue their project, using waltz as a formal and a contextual tool, a raw material for their practice, a background noise to their collaboration.

Ladies and gentlemen, herewith I would like to invite you to WALZ'R, a performance about HORROR and GRACE, mechanical torture and sex. There will be rare reenactments of tendentious dances from the 1920's, but also glamorous kisses and harsh noise, the Frankenstein original soundtrack and Liszt. Please join us in this swirl of death and fantasy.

"(...)In "Walz'r" dekonstruiert Jenny Beyer eine (soziale) Tanzform und spielt leichtfüßig mit Zitaten aus der (Tanz-)Kunst-Geschichte. Das Quartett posiert, übt Ballett im
verfremdeten Kontext. Oder es rudert auf dem Trockenen einen Reigen anmutiger Wassernymphen, ironisiert die nassen Filmmusicals der "Badenden Venus" Esther
Williams. Hier wedeln nicht Möchtegern-Tänzer irgendwie mit den Armen, hier sind Profis am Werk, die wissen, was sie tun. Ob das vom Publikum so verstanden wird
wie gedacht, ist eine andere Frage. Doch die Performance von Beyer und ihrem Team spricht für sich. So gekonnt macht Konzepttanz Spaß. Erfreulicherweise ist er
manchmal besser als sein Ruf."
